How to Renew Portuguese Residence Permits Expired by June 30, 2025
If your Portuguese residence permit expired between February 22, 2020, and June 30, 2025, it remains valid until October 15, 2025, for all legal purposes within Portugal. This includes rights to work, access healthcare, and use public services.
AIMA has announced that affected individuals will be contacted by email starting July 1, 2025. Here’s what to expect:
- Once contacted, you’ll need to access services.aima.gov.pt to validate your data.
- After logging in, generate the DUC payment reference and pay within 10 working days.
- If your passport or biometric data is outdated, you’ll be scheduled for an in-person appointment.
This extension does not permit international travel. Travel outside Portugal with an expired residence card is not recommended until renewal is finalized.
