The Portuguese State Budget for 2024 was officially published in the Diário da República and will take effect on January 1, 2024.
Simplified Granting and Renewal of Residency Permits
For non-EU foreign nationals, Article 217 stipulates a simplified process for the submission and renewal of residency permits. This includes applications without the need for a prior visa, facilitated through unofficial consultations with databases to obtain relevant information, particularly in criminal records, tax registration regularity, and social security contributions, if applicable.
This means that the renewal of residence permits will still be done online as it was until now. We are waiting for more information about when the renewals open for the trimester and if they are done in the old sef.pt website or in a new AIMA platform.
Furthermore, it states in paragraph 8 of the same article that “titles issued following the decisions of requests that fall within the scope of this article and related to minors, except for those related to the reunification of holders of residency permits for investment, are exempt from fees.”
