AIMA Launches Online Requests for Data Changes and Duplicate Residence Permits
The Agência para a Imigração e Mobilidade (AIMA) in Portugal has launched a new online functionality specifically for foreign citizens who already hold a residence card or permit.
This feature is available through the official AIMA contact form:
contactenos.aima.gov.pt.
What Can You Request with This New Feature?
When selecting the topic “Autorização de Residência” (Residence Permit) on the form, foreign citizens can now make two types of requests:
- Change of Personal Data
If your personal data has changed (such as address, name, or other key information), you can request an update to your details used for the issuance of your residence permit. - Request a Second Copy of Your Residence Card/Permit
If your card is lost, stolen, or damaged, you can apply for a duplicate.
Required Documents for Each Request
In both cases, you must upload:
- A copy of your valid passport
- A copy of your current residence card or title
Depending on your request, you’ll also need to provide:
- For Data Changes: Proof of the reason for the change (e.g., utility bill, marriage certificate)
- For a Second Copy: A copy of the police report confirming you reported the loss or theft
Important: These requests must be submitted no earlier than 90 days before the expiry date of your current residence card or permit.
How to Access the Service
You can learn more about this digital service in the official news post from AIMA here:

You need the police report and a digital copy of the card. Then you can request an appointment to get a new one here: https://contactenos.aima.gov.pt/contact-form as mentioned in the post. Note this will not renew you residence permit expiring date.
Hello. My husband and I need to change our address. I tried using this site but received a message saying I cannot change our address because we are within 4 months of the expiration of our temporary residence permits. Our permits expire July 26, 2025. How can I update our address and apply for renewal of our permits? Obrigada
Hello. You can update your adress when you renew your residence card. It seems AIMA is still working on a platform on how to renew the cards expired: https://aima.gov.pt/pt/documentos-e-vistos-validos-e-aceites-ate-30-de-junho-de-2025-valid-and-accepted-documents-and-visas-until-30-june-2025
Site will not allow me to submit my request for address change. All required information has been provided, the “Submit Request” button does not do anything.
Hello. You have to try again, with diferent browsers. And check if all the details are correct from the start. Unfortunatelye the platform is a bit cluttered still.
Hello
Hope you are doing well
Actually I applied second copy of my residence card but I forgot to upload police report now it’s not possible to upload again because I tried and the site pop up the message your card already requested. Kindly let me know what should I do. Thanks
Hello
I don’t believe you can but you’ll be able to either deliver in person or re-submit if required.
